09/29/15 - Mexico City, Mexico

Hey everyone! Wow, what a week.. I'm not even sure where to start. Mexico! It's been a ride. I arrived into the country last Wednesday and it has been non-stop. The first full day here I was made the District Leader and that has been both a lot of pressure but also has brought many blessings. The food here is great! I never realized how much I enjoy mexican food. And Nutella. We get to eat nutella for every single meal. It's beautiful. So much has happened in less than a week! My companion and I have taught our first investigator three lessons so far and are teaching her the fourth tomorrow. Her name is Elsa. We have been teaching every lesson in Spanish. Well, at least attempting.. haha! I actually feel like I understand almost everything she asks us and am able to answer each of her questions. When we teach, I feel the spirit so strong and am starving to teach more lessons! One a day is not nearly enough. I can't wait to get out into the field. As District Leader, I have had the opportunity to give two people in my district priesthood blessings. They both had felt very down and had requested my help. I was more than happy to assist. Each blessing was a very special experience, some that I will never forget. I found out a few days ago that music in the MTC is not allowed at all throughout these next six weeks. I think I am going to die and kind of already have. I'm not going to lie, this has been the toughest experience of my life. There have been countless times where I don't know how I am going to get through this, but somehow, it always works out. I miss so many things and so many people. I love all of you and truly do miss you. I hope everything is going well back home and am grateful for all of you and your support!

With love,

Elder Shearer

09/22/15 - Spanish Fork, Utah

Wow! Time has gone by so quickly. I'm not even sure what to say... Well, I leave for the MTC in the morning and am very excited. Also nervous, but mostly excited. I keep telling myself not to think about what I am feeling because this isn't about me. It's about the Lord. I am serving a mission for the Lord. As I have prepared, I have found that the more I focus on my fears and anxieties, the further I become from the Spirit. I love this gospel so very much and am truly grateful for the opportunity I have to share it with the people of North Carolina. Here go the best two years of my life, wish me luck!
